A 25-year-old man who allegedly attempted to rob an Algiers couple in their home was shot to death Wednesday night by the homeowner.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Homestead Drive near General Meyer Avenue.

The 28-year-old homeowner and his 36-year-old wife were approached by a masked gunman as they were on a backyard patio.  The gunman demanded money and ordered the couple into the home that housed their three young daughters, ages 6, 13 and 14.

Once inside, the homeowner retrieved a gun and shot the perpetrator. Neither the couple nor their children were injured in the incident.

The NOPD says the investigation is ongoing.
