On February 7th we celebrate the 14th Annual National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). The theme of this year’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is “I Am My Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper. Fight HIV/AIDS!” The goals for NBHAAD are Get Educated, Get Tested, Get Involved and Get Treated.

Attached is a fact sheet with Louisiana’s statistics regarding HIV/AIDS in the black community. This fact sheet is also posted to our Facebook HIV411 page!

In 2011, blacks made up 14% of the US population but accounted for 46% of new HIV infections.

Black men accounted for 71% of new HIV infections among blacks.
