CVS Pharmacy to Sell Hemp-Derived CBD Products in 8 States

CVS pharmacy to begin selling CBD products in stores

Residents in eight states will soon have the ability to purchase hemp-derived CBD products at their local CVS Pharmacy, the national drug store chain announced on Wednesday.

“We are carrying hemp-derived CBD products in select states to help meet consumer demand for alternative care options,” CVS Health Spokesperson, Mike DeAngelis told NBC News.

The home of the biggest receipts in retail said they'll be selling topical cannabidiol products including creams, sprays, and roll-ons as an "alternative source of relief" in a deal with Canadian marijuana company Curaleaf Holdings Inc.

The CBD products being sold will be tested by a company to verify the quality of the topicals which will be available for purchase at 800 stores in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Tennessee.

CBD, or cannabidiol isn't the same thing as its more popular cousin, THC which is the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana. Both are full of cannabinoids, but CBD is interesting to people for its potential medical benefits. Topical oils and creams contained CBD are used by people to treat a variety of issues, including anxiety, pain, inflammation and even cancer.

The FDA has only approved one CBD oil - Epidiolex, which is an oral solution used to treat seizures associated with rare forms of epilepsy.

CVS will not be selling any food or drinks containing CBD as Food and Drug Administration regulations prohibit it from being added to food or drinks.
