New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr left during Sunday's (December 8) 14-11 win against the New York Giants and evaluated for a concussion and arm injury, FOX Sports sideline reporter Laura Okim reported during the live broadcast.
Carr, 33, went down late in the fourth quarter while attempting to leap toward the line to gain a first down. The veteran quarterback stayed down for an extended period of time before walking gingerly to the Saints' medical tent and later walking to the locker room with the team's medical staff.
Second-year quarterback Jake Haener replaced Carr for the remainder of the game, which New Orleans won after the Giants missed a would-be game-tying field goal attempt with seconds remaining, but didn't throw a pass. Carr finished Sunday's game with 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 20 of 31 passing, while also recording 12 yards on two rushing attempts.
Carr signed a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension, which included a $32.9 million salary for 2023 and $7.5 million for 2024, both fully guaranteed pending an injury, last offseason. The former Fresno state standout selected by the Raiders at No. 36 overall in the second-round of the 2014 NFL Draft and holds franchise records in passing yards (35,222), passing touchdowns (217) and completions (3,201), while ranking second behind Pro Football Hall of Famer Ken Stabler (69-26-1) in QB wins with a 63-79-0 overall record.
