Rod Blagojevich is home after prison sentence commuted

Donald Trump Pardons Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich

Rod Blagojevich is now a free man after President Trump commuted his prison sentence.

The former Illinois governor was sentenced to prison for 14 years after being convicted on 18 counts related to him selling Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat and the fundraising shakedowns of a children's hospital executive and a racetrack owner.

After serving nearly 8 years in prison, Blagojevich returned to his Ravenswood Manor home early on Wednesday, February 19th. President Trump says, "He served eight years in jail, that's a long time, and I watched his wife on television, I don't know him very well, I met him a couple of times, he was on for a short time on 'The Apprentice' years ago, seemed like a very nice person, don't know him, but he served eight years in jail, there's a long time to go. He'll be able to go home to his family after serving eight years in jail, that was a tremendously powerful, ridiculous sentence in my opinion."

Many have spoken out about Blagojevich's sentence being commuted including Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Click here to read her statement and see Blagojevich speaking out about being released.
